Chestnut Mountain is one of the best kept secrets in Buncombe County.

Schumacher Homes

We wanted to relocate from Ohio to a gentler climate without giving up the change of seasons. While Asheville offers a perfect seasonal balance with warmer winter, cooler summer and colorful fall, we knew in advance that finding the right homesite would be a challenge. Armed with a long list of must haves made even more demanding from our careers in real estate, we began searching.

After 6 months of intense exploration, a clear winner emerged. Chestnut Mountain offered stunning views, proximity to the City of Asheville, interstate highways and the Blue Ridge Parkway, and exceptional value not found in any other mountain community. Huge homesites, magnificent roadscapes and easy access are only part of what makes this community so spectacular.

What’s more, we can tell people how to find us in a short sentence rather than a long paragraph!

If you’re looking for a very unique small community to experience mountain living nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains, but you still want close proximity to the amenities that a small city has to offer, you owe it to yourself to visit the home sites located on Chestnut Mountain. From the stacked stone entrance, stone lined drives, hiking trails, picnic areas, water features… each home site has its own unique characteristics and views that make it so easy to call this place home.

Once we made the decision to relocate from North Texas to the Asheville area, we spent 6 months searching for property to build our future home on. During our search, we became more discouraged as time passed. The majority of the developments we visited were selling the last few lots… once seen, it was easy to understand why they were the last to be sold. On many occasions, we would drive into the development and immediately leave without even looking further. Sadly, we learned very quickly that what looked good on a MLS listing was not what it was in reality. The developments were lacking a visual appeal, and sense of pride in ownership which was an important factor for us in selecting a place to call home. We even increased the price we would pay in anticipation of finding a better selection. Adding to our dilemma was our difficulty in visualizing our future home on the vacant land we could actually see. We kept waiting for that very special feeling… the internal voice that says “this feels like home”, but it never happened.

On our last two days of searching, we were visiting with our home builder (America’s Home Place), discouraged and feeling defeated in our search for the perfect place to live. It was during this visit, that our home builder referred us to the Chestnut Mountain development, and in particular to a home site where the price had recently been reduced. He reviewed their website with us, and their brochure… we were immediately impressed with the level of professionalism and design. As we drove to Chestnut Mountain, we kept hoping… is this the right one?

From the moment we entered the development, there was an overwhelming sense of tranquility. We passed rock lined roads, a large corner hillside covered with wild flowers in bloom, and trees everywhere. As we approached the home site, parked the car in the paved drive… our mouths fell open. Short stacked stone walls, grassy areas with boulders and trees. As we walked forward, we could see a rock lined path leading off into the distance among the trees. We followed the lengthy path and arrived at a 20 foot tall, spring-fed waterfall and pond. Alongside the pond, was a natural stairway leading up to a seating area where we sat on large boulders in total amazement. We watched the water splash down the waterfall into the pond, then spill over the side and continue down the land creating a small stream. It was at this moment… it happened, that long awaited small voice finally spoke up – “this IS home.”

As we walked the path back towards the entrance, we saw views of Cedar Mountain off in the distance. It was 2.67 acres of breath taking beauty and unparalleled individuality. We stood where the house would be built and had no difficulty imagining our future home. It wasn’t just vacant land… this place had character to begin with, and our home was just going to accent what was already there. After a few days, we made an offer and got an excellent deal… including a cash incentive to begin building the home within specified timeframes.

It’s been 6 months since we purchased our home site, and we have zero regrets or second thoughts. On a recent visit to Asheville, one of the developers (Walter Tamagni) contacted us to welcome us to Chestnut Mountain. He made arrangements to meet in our hotel lobby, and for three hours he explained the vision of the development and answered any questions we had. Walter’s kind personality just added to the feeling that we made the perfect purchase. Construction on our new home will begin in weeks, and we can not wait to take ownership. I know this is going to sound cliché, but Chestnut Mountain is a place you can call home, and the developers welcome you into the family.
